From the Desk of the President

Hello all,

It’s been a while since I’ve talked to you. I have been going through some personal family issues. I realize we all are going through issues in one way or the other, whether it’s with the family we are born into, our chosen family, or with the issues that are happening in this world we live in.  We are going through hardships and loss that affects us all deep within our soul.  I know whatever is happening we are stronger together. In this world we live in, where we struggle but still we honor and celebrate our existence. One thing is certain: we have a chance to make an indelible mark on history. If we don’t vote we don’t exist. We have to make our voices heard, we have to stand up to all who don’t agree that “Equal rights for all doesn’t mean fewer rights for you. It’s not pie” And, to be clear, these are not new fights. The echoes of past discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community are unmistakable. Similar tactics that were once wielded against gay men and lesbians are now being repurposed to target trans and nonbinary individuals. Records for the number of anti-trans bills introduced in state legislatures have been shattered year after year, with 2024 poised to continue this troubling trend.  Albuquerque Pride stands with Black Lives Matter, and Trans Lives Matter. May is around the corner, and you know what that means? Pride month is nearly here. Albuquerque Pride is extremely excited to present this year’s Pridefest, our theme is “Gather Dream & Amplify” More in 2024! We have a full week of events starting June 3rd. As an organization we want to give back to the community all year long, so we celebrate Pride 365 every second Saturday of the month at S4200.  You are my brothers and sisters, and siblings! As president of this organization, I will continue to lead with honor, and dignity which to me means recognising the inherent worth of people and treating them in a way that shows them they matter. I still believe that a safer and more free world is possible.

Thank you for your support,

See you at Pridefest!

If you have any questions or concerns you can come to our board meetings the 3rd Sunday of every month at one o’clock at MCCA church located on Lomas and Texas. You can also email me directly [email protected].

Have a prideful day,
Suzi Alexander
